Format the date/time fields in Excel for exported call logs?

Excel requires a custom date/time format be entered in order to display a full date and time down to the seconds. Excel does not have a standard format that includes the full date and time down to the second, only down to the minute.

Excel provides the ability to display the full date and time using the custom format feature. The format to display the full date and time can be entered manually for a column, and the Format Paste feature used to apply the format to each of the date/time columns.

To format a date/time column to display the full date and time down to the seconds:

  1. Open the CSV file in Excel
  2. Click the column header of the first date/time column
  3. Right click the column header and select "Format Cells..."
  4. Select the "Number" tab
  5. Select "Custom" from the category list
  6. In the "Type" field enter "m/d/yyyy hh:mm:ss AM/PM"
  7. Click "OK"
To apply the format to the remaining columns:
  1. Select the column showing the date/time format just entered
  2. Click the format painter icon (the paint brush icon)
  3. Click on the column header for the next date/time column that needs the full date/time formatting
Repeat this process for each additional column that requires the full date/time displayed down to the seconds.
